MICROQUASARS

Félix Mirabel

Black holes in X-ray binaries are sources of relativistic jets that mimic, on smaller scales, phenomena seen in the more distant quasars, and are thus called microquasars. I will review the contribution of the studies of microquasars for the understanding of : 1) the physical connection between accretion to black holes and relativistic outflows, 2) stellar black holes as the early heating sources of the Intergalactic Medium during reionization, and their impact in galaxy formation, and 3) the formation of black holes in massive stellar binaries that lead to the formation of binary black holes as GW150914, the first detected source of gravitational-waves.
