The present status of the Magellanic Clouds. How well do we know our neighbours ?

Maria-Rosa Cioni

Our view of the Magellanic Clouds is rapidly changing thanks to large fractions of telescope time to reach the faintest stars, to study their distribution, to measure their age, distance, motion and chemistry. Despite the numerous investigations and progress made in the last decade, there remain several uncertainties. In this presentation, I am going to focus on the most recent results obtained from the VISTA survey of the Magellanic Clouds system (VMC). In particular, I will discuss the proper motion derived in a region east of the SMC containing the Milky Way star cluster 47 Tuc.
