Context

The Gaia satellite, cornerstone of the European Space Agency, has been launched december 19, 2013 for a 5 years mission. The scientific preparation of the mission is organised since 2006 by the DPAC european Consortium, to which our teams contribute. DPAC has been developing algorithms for the simulation and the data analysis of the data from the satellite. Within DPAC, our team has the responsibility of the spectrograph calibration and of the data handling. The selected candidate will work on the software development (conception, optimisation) of the spectroscopic data analysis modules, and the analysis of the results.

Job description :

  • Scientific analysis and software development for the processing of astronomical data
  • Job function : scientific and technical studies, specification, conception and development
  • Competences : software engineering, development in Java, databases, data analysis techniques, technical english, relational aptitudes. A background in astronomy and preferably in spectroscopy would be an advantage.
  • The candidate must have either a PhD degree or a second year of a Master diploma, or an engineer degree in astrophysics or computer science
  • Duration : one year with possible renewal for several years.
  • Wages : between 1900-2400€/month net salary, depending on study level and previous experience (TBC).
