Gaia Early Data Release 3

» Friday 13 November 2020

The "Gaia Early Data Release 3" (Gaia EDR3), the first part of the third Gaia catalogue, will be published on 3 December at 12:00 CET.

As with the Gaia DR3 (expected to be published in the first half of 2022), the Gaia EDR3 is based on data collected over 34 months, between July 2014 and May 2017. For comparison, the Gaia DR2 was based on data collected over 22 months of operations, the Gaia DR1 over 14 months.
The content of the Gaia EDR3 looks very promising, with a typical improvement in parallaxes of around 20% compared to the Gaia DR2, and an improvement in proper motions by a factor of 2.

An event (via visio) will be organised by GEPI and the AF Gaia on the day of publication of this new catalogue. More information will follow on this website in the coming days.

For more information on the Gaia EDR3 you can consult the Gaia website of the Observatoire de Paris and the ESA Gaia website.
