A super lithium-rich red-clump star in the open cluster Trumpler 5

» Friday 25 April 2014

A team of european scientists, including Piercarlo Bonifacio and Elisabetta Caffau from GEPI, has identified a super lithium-rich red-clump star in the open cluster Trumpler 5. They used spectroscopic data from FLAMES/GIRAFFE and UVES at VLT (ESO paranal) and MIKE at Magellan (Las Campanas), a super lithium-rich red-clump star in the open cluster Trumpler 5.
The existence of lithium-rich low-mass red giant stars still represents a challenge for stellar evolution models.
This discovery allowed the authors to pinpoint the evolutionary phase in which lithium is produced.

More details can be found on the Observatoire de Paris website.
