The accretion histories of galaxies are a critical prediction of the ΛCDM paradigm of structure formation and impact galaxy formation in fundamental ways, by shaping the structure, kinematics and stellar population content of present day galaxies. I will present evidence, mostly based on APOGEE data, suggesting that the Milky Way Galaxy underwent an unusual accretion history, which is responsible for some of the defining features of its disc, bulge, and halo.
